I have been doing heaps of reading about Vitamins as I want to be as educated as I can be about what I need to be putting in my body.
When I received my vitamin deficiency, Allergenics (where I got tested) suggested that I get their range of Women's Essentials and D3 drops.
They vitamins themselves look fine but have a lot of vitamins and minerals in them that I don't need to worry about (because my levels are normal).
The was that there was no information about whether the vitamins met Good Manufacturing Practices and/or are Pharmaceutical Grade (important if you want to know that the amounts on the packet are actually in the pills).
The other thing I have discovered from my reading is that it's really important for the vitamins to be able to dissolve/disintegrate properly. USANA tablets are formulated to meet United States Pharmacopoeia standards, which require full disintegration within 30-45 min. They are also formulated to meet standards for dissolution. Innovative formulations have been developed to optimize nutrient bioavailability.
Bioavailability (defined as the degree and rate at which a substance (as a drug) is absorbed into a living system - or more correctly, the degree or rate at which it is ultimately made available at the site of physiological activity) is also important and another topic I will get into later on.
At this stage, I am still super happy with how USANA can provide all the information in relation to the things I have mentioned above so I am continuing my trial.
One of the issues I have is the ability to swallow pills so this means I am going to be changing my prescription as I have been struggling to take the adult version of the things I need! But lucky for me - USANA have a whole range of things to try and I have worked out how many of everything I need to get the things I require.
